Step by Step Guidance Post NEET Counseling

So, are you an aspiring student who has completed your NEET examination? The results are out and you have cleared your NEET? Now, the major concern is the admission procedure, which seems a little confusing and exhausting. Not to worry, this article can help you in understanding everything post NEET examination:

While the Medical Counselling Committee is responsible for admission into 15% of the AIQ seats, the remaining 85% seats are allotted by the state counselling authority based on the NEET results. The various state authorities also offer admission to private colleges following NEET-UG. However, for admission through state quota, it is important to meet the NEET domicile requirements set out by the different states.

All India Quota (AIQ) Seats:

The government medical and dental institutions in India have allocated 15% of their seats to the NEET AIQ scheme, which is open to all students who have passed the NEET exam. This means that a candidate from West Bengal can apply for admission to government colleges in other states as well, via the AIQ scheme.

Deemed and Central Universities:

All seats at central and deemed universities are available for the NEET qualified candidates. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is the counselling authority for Deemed and Central universities. Counseling for NEET in Deemed and Central Universities is done online. Candidates must fill out a separate application form for counselling in these universities, as issued by the DGHS, in order to apply for MBBS/BDS seats in the same.

State Government Colleges:

After allocating 15% of the seats in AIQ, the remaining 85 percent of seats in government medical and dentistry institutions are classified as state quota seats. Candidates from the particular states are usually the only ones eligible for these seats. For example, in West Bengal, only West Bengal residents are eligible to apply for its state quota seats. Candidates must fill out the application form as soon as it is made available by their respective state counselling authorities.

Private Colleges:

Irrespective of their domicile or state of residence, all students who qualify NEET can apply in medical colleges for admission in Bangalore and across the nation by filling out the application forms provided by the various state counselling authorities. Some private institutions, on the other hand, allocate a number of seats for state quotas, for which only the residents of those states are eligible to apply. Counseling for Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore college for medical study is conducted by the same state counselling authorities that provide counselling for the state quota seats.
